Patient Care

Throughout my life I have been involved in several volunteering and shadowing opportunities that exposed me to patient care and interaction. My first exposure to patient care was at the New England Baptist Hospital.

The New England Baptist Hospital: My position at the hospital was an Operating Room Orderly. As an orderly, I assisted in the preparation of surgical rooms and beds using turnover kits before surgeries. Turnover kits varied depending on the type of surgery that was going to be performed. They consisted of bedsheets and covers for handles such as light or door handles. In addition, I sanitized about 4-5 surgical rooms during each volunteer session after surgeries to reduce contamination by using towels and cleaning solution. As this was occurring, I had the opportunity to observe orthopedic surgery and speak to many patients about their experience in the hospital. In addition, I helped discharge patients and provided services to them such as supplying food and beverages.
