Come join the Neuroscience Axis and Forensics Club in a discussion about forensic psychology and neuroscience! Learn about the careers within forensic neuroscience, and try your hand at solving some forensic mysteries!
Hello everyone!
This is the last week of the semester, so we won’t be having a general body meeting. We hope you’ve enjoyed our club and events, and we hope you’ll join us next semester for some more great events!
The Neuroscience Axis wants to hear from you about what you would like to see next semester! You can start filling out the feedback form by clicking the button bellow. This will let us know what you liked, disliked, and what you think we could be doing better. Participants will be rewarded with one outreach credit (applied to your participation next semester)!
We wish you happy holidays and good luck on all of your finals!
Sincerely,
The NeSA
Hello everyone,
The following is a graduate program and research fellowship opportunity for neuroscience:
If you are committed to a career in neuroscience research, consider our Neuroscience Graduate Program (NGP) at the Vollum Institute/Oregon Health and Science University.
The NGP faculty is large and diverse while the number of graduate students remains relatively small, allowing graduate students to connect with highly accomplished scientists including many well-recognized senior scientists as well as a growing number of outstanding junior faculty members. As a medical campus, OHSU provides its students with access to both translational and clinical research activities, and our graduates go on to secure excellent postdoctoral positions and a wide variety of jobs in academia, industry, and other science-related fields such as science writing.
Visit the NGP website to read about the experiences of some of our graduates and to explore areas in which we excel, including:
Our program is recognized as one of the top programs in the US, and we are located in one of its most livable and beautiful cities, Portland. We have great and affordable neighborhoods with restaurants that fit into even a graduate student’s budget. The application deadline for this year’s program is December 1, 2017.
If you are a college junior looking for summer research fellowships, we will be accepting applications for our stipended undergraduate summer research program. The application deadline for this program is March 1, 2018.
Please visit our websites or contact us for more information. I think you will be excited about the quality of our program and the opportunities it presents for a positive PhD experience.

Hi everyone!
We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving break! As you know, there are only 2 weeks left before the finals, and we wanted to announce our last GBM of the semester which we are holding in Life Sciences Seminar room 038 at 7pm this week (as usual)!
We will be featuring Dr. Jeroen Smaers in a talk about the evolution of the human brain. We will be discussing his research, and everyone will have an opportunity to participate and ask questions!
We will see you there!
Sincerely,
The NeSA
Hello everyone!
This week, we’ll go over how the visual system and optical illusions work. We’ll also have crafting materials so everyone can make their own Newton disk that creates an optical illusion!
As a reminder, we won’t have a general body meeting next week due to Thanksgiving. Additionally, there won’t be any Neurobiology or Neurology grand rounds that week.
GBMs are held at 7pm in Life Sciences Seminar room 038.
Sincerely,
The NeSA
Hi everyone!
Here is a quick update on our upcoming GBM.
This Wednesday (11/8), Neuroscience Axis is collaborating with SBU Red Watch Band to raise awareness of the effects of alcohol and toxic drinking on the brain. Students will have a chance to learn how to intervene and prevent serious injuries when it comes to excessive alcohol consumption from the Red Watch Band team. Complete a quick training and get your official certificate!
Let’s help to promote peace and safety on our campus!
As usual, the GBM will be held in the Seminar Room 038 of Life Sciences at 7pm on Wednesday. We hope to see you all there!
Sincerely,
The NeSA

Hi everyone,
This coming Tuesday, October 24th, we are hosting a Career Exploration Panel alongside our Stony Brook Pre-Medical Society! We have invited doctors from psychiatry and child neurology to speak with us about their experiences in their respective careers and the pathways they took to achieve the statuses they currently hold. This event will take place in Melville Library room W4540 from 7-8pm (regular GBM hours for Pre-Med Society). Again, it is Tuesday, not Wednesday this week! No GBM will take place on Wednesday. We hope this panel brings you insight and clarity into your future, and hope to see you all there!
Sincerely,
Neuroscience Axis
