Here is a beautiful message that Carolyn O’Neill, Elder Life Coordinator/Geriatric Educator passed along for us:

Good Afternoon,

Please see the attached picture. This lovely patient celebrated her 88th Birthday today in one of the units.

The unit called me and said it was her birthday and wanted to make it special. They knew I had lap blankets as part of our Geriatric NICHE Program and asked for one.

I had this beautiful blanket with a matching hat (made by one of our volunteer Stony Brook Stitchers ). Three nurses and I went in and spoke with this lovely patient, gave her a signed birthday card from the staff and the blanket – she was so happy ,touched and “we made her day”

I then asked the patient “What Matters to you” and she replied that she wanted this beautiful blanket to go to her next born great grandchild.

It is a wonderful feeling that even in these difficult times, we can all experience and share joy 😊

Thank you,

Carolyn
