Fifth GBM- Neuroanthopology

Are you interested in anthropology? Don’t really know what it is and what its potential applications are? This event is for you! This week, we will be collaborating with the Undergraduate Anthropology Society to go over the field of anthropology and several subfields, such as neuroanthropology and medical anthropology. Join us this week to learn more about anthropology on Wednesday, October 10th from 7-8PM in Life Science 038. We hope to see you there!

 

Fourth GBM- Electrophysiology

Are you interested in neuroscience but don’t know where to begin? Well, no problem! Come to Neuroscience Axis this week to learn about electrophysiology. We’ll be going over what electrophysiology is and how it relates to neuroscience. You can not only further your knowledge on this topic, but you can also learn what type of future, awaits for you, by pursuing a career related to this field. And to those, who already know what electrophysiology is, come to Neuroscience Axis to share and further your knowledge of electrophysiology. Third GBM- Basics of Neuroscience

Interested in Neuroscience?! Have no idea what it is?? Not a problem! Come learn about all the different aspects this Wednesday with Neuroscience Axis. We’ll be going over the basics and covering topics within neuroanatomy, neurology and electrophysiology. You’ll be able to gain an overview of neuroscience and expose yourself to the multitude of fields offered. Come learn about neuroscience this Wednesday, September 26 from 7-8 pm in Life Sciences 038. Second GBM- Undergraduate Research Panel

Are you interested in getting involved in research on campus? Are you curious about the research experiences of undergraduates here at Stony Brook? Come to the Neuroscience Axis’ panel of undergraduate researchers, where you can learn more about how undergraduates get involved in research and their overall experiences from those who have a strong background in research! Learn about these first-hand experiences on Wednesday, September 19th from 7-8pm in Life Sciences 038, we look forward to seeing you there!

Welcome – First GBM – September 12th

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the Neuroscience Axis! We are incredibly happy to announce that our first General Body Meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday, September 12th 7-8pm in Life Sciences 038. If you would like to learn more about research, nervous systems, human behavior, neurology/medicine and many other related fields, come join the Neuroscience Axis! We are dedicated to helping you find research and internship opportunities on and off campus and to providing you with a lot of fun and exciting activities throughout the semester!

We are also going to be at the upcoming Involvement Fair on Wednesday, September 12th 1-2:30pm so make sure to find us there as well. Everyone is welcome to join our club, regardless of your major or prior experience in neuroscience.

Neuroscience in Biomedical Engineering – April 25th

Hello everyone!

 

With the ongoing advance of technology, we are seeing a greater bond between the fields of engineering and neuroscience. If you are into engineering or biology, and want to learn more about this blooming industry, come to our meeting this Wednesday, from 7pm to 9pm in Life Sciences 038, to see how neuroscience and engineering join spheres! We are collaborating with Biomedical Engineering Society to demonstrate the application of human to human interface and arduino boards. Dr. Craig Evinger from the Department of Neurobiology will also be joining us to give his presentation about new exciting advancements made in biomedical engineering!

Career Exploration Panel – April 11th

Hello!

Here is the information on this week’s GBM:

The healthcare industry is growing rapidly, and many students feel confused as to which fields to pursue. The choices are endless, but have no fear, the Neuroscience Axis is here to help! On April 11th from 7-8pm, the Neuroscience Axis is holding a panel of professions in the healthcare industry, ranging from psychology, and neurology to pharmacology, bioengineering and research. You will have the chance to ask questions and learn about the experiences of those who work in the healthcare industry, which can help with your future endeavors in healthcare!

Pathways into Medicine (Panel) – April 4th

Hello everyone!

For the upcoming GBM next week (April 4th), the Neuroscience Axis is hosting a panel of outstanding Stony Brook alumni who followed their unique pathways into medicine. The goal of this event is to raise awareness of various medical programs available to pre-med students after graduation. So if you are unsure about your future plans, or you are simply interested in ideas for your gap year,  here you will have an incredible opportunity to discover different ways of transitioning into medicine and healthcare.

The panel will be hosted on April 4th 7-8pm in Life Sciences Seminar Room 038.

Diversity in Neuroscience

On April 18th, Neuroscience Axis wishes to uphold the standard of Stony Brook University as one of the most diverse schools in the top 100 universities in the nation with a celebration of Diversity in Neuroscience. The goal of our event is to demonstrate the impacts that socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds play in career advancement. With the support of esteemed Stony Brook faculty and alumni, we hope to demonstrate to current aspiring students the difficulties that may arise along many career paths and the ways to overcome those difficulties and succeed in a number of different fields.

 

Neuroscience and Psi Chi

Neuroscience Axis will be hosting Urszula Zalewski from the Career Center as she discusses important details about the incoming Healthcare Job Fair. If you’d like to learn about the employers and how to properly pitch yourself at the event, this presentation is for you! We will also, in collaboration with Psi Chi, give individual resume suggestions and helpful tips to prepare you th best we can!
