Work Statement

An itch can range from a passing inconvenience to unbearable pain and tearing bloodied skin. What about the little itching thoughts and feelings that keep one up at night when we stare at our ceilings? Or the daily little demons that eat away at our soul? In those moments, we may be at our heights of loneliness and despair and delude ourselves that we’re alone, but we all share in experiencing this feeling at times in our lives. When I’m on the brink, this notion has helped me. I hope it helps the viewer. The central figure in the piece is at this point. I expect the audience to empathize with the figure, but also relate to him.

This piece is meant to convey a certain intensity of frustration about wanting things to change but feeling powerless to make them change. A tipping point of when all the passive resistance boils over into intense action. This is a piece among a body of work meant to tell an individual’s story of healing and recovery. This particular work is a subconscious snapshot of their story.
