Stony Brook alum Dr. Yerin Kim has been appointed the incoming director of the Office of University of Student Research at Central Washington University, promoting and supporting creative performance and research. Dr. Kim, an accomplished pianist, educator, and scholar, currently serves as Associate Professor in the Music Department and the Director of Keyboard Studies at CWU.
As a regular lecturer, Kim performs and gives talks on promoting awareness of the power of music in the community that it serves, especially in the field of music and medicine. She founded and directs Sensory Friendly Music and Autism Concert Series, which has served many individuals and families across the United States. Her most recent concert series on Music & Autism at Central Washington University invites autistic artists and poets as collaborators and curates concerts of newly composed music. She is also co-Artistic Director with violinist Brendan Shea (also a Stony Brook alum) of Chamber Music in the Bend, programming high quality chamber music education and performing chamber music concerts for the community.
