Congratulations to Stony Brook alumni ensembles Yarn/Wire, Unheard-of Ensemble, and Ensemble Decipher on winning New Music USA Organization Fund grants! We are always excited to see new music ensembles that begin while at Stony Brook forging their own pathways and unique projects that leave an impact on the music world!
Yarn/Wire is a New York–based experimental piano/percussion quartet known for bold collaborations and boundary-pushing performances of contemporary works. Unheard-of Ensemble is known for adventurous multimedia performances in every community from concert halls and museums to their series on the Gowanus Canal. Ensemble Decipher is a modular experimental group dedicated to performing and commissioning experimental works that integrate technology, multimedia, and new instruments.
Stony Brook has been a home to award-winning new music from Gilbert Kalish and now Eduardo Leandro directing the Contemporary Chamber Players for decades to the many new music groups that are created by our graduate students during their studies.
