Congratulations to Jocelyn Ho (DMA, Piano Performance 2016), Assistant Professor of Performance Studies at UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music, for winning two major awards from the Society for Music Theory for her article “Corporeal Musical Structure: A Gestural-Kinesthetic Approach to Toru Takemitsu’s Rain Tree Sketch II,” which appeared in Music Theory Online 27 (4). Ho’s article, which grew out of a paper originally written for a seminar with Professor Judy Lochhead (Critical Music Studies) here at Stony Brook, was recognized with the SMT’s Emerging Scholar Award for Articles, as well as the SMT’s Post-1945 Music Analysis Interest Group’s Publication Award. In addition to being an award-winning scholar, Ho is an accomplished pianist (a Steinway Artist since 2017) and composer, having received the International Alliance for Women in Music Ruth Anderson Commission Prize for her piece Women’s Labor, for electronic embedded irons (developed with Professor Margaret Schedel, Composition).
