A summer concert series by Tom Manuel & Project 128 will start in The Springs, home of the Pollock-Krasner House and The Arts Center at Duck Creek, then travel to Stony Brook and back again to the East End.
The collaboration is a first for The Jazz Loft, the Pollock-Krasner House and The Arts Center at Duck Creek, which was once owned by abstract expressionist John Little, who in the 1950s, used this space as a studio and meeting place for artists in the then burgeoning art colony of The Springs.
Concerts at The Arts Center at Duck Creek are sponsored by The Pollock-Krasner House and free for the public. Space is limited for the concerts at The Arts Center at Duck Creek on July 25 and August 15, and tickets will be available for reservation one month prior to the show, please visit our website for more information at The Arts Center at Duck Creek. “The association between Jazz and expressionist art, is evident throughout The Jazz Loft, as we showcase artists such as David Stone Martin, Leo Meiersdorff, Richard Frooman, and especially Vincent Quattroche, who was a Greenport native and spent time at Pollock’s East Hampton home,” said Jazz Loft founder Tom Manuel. The art of ‘hanging out’ together was at its best during the 1940s and 50s and so many writers, playwrights, artists, musicians, poets and others enjoyed the inspiration and cross pollination of each other’s presence. Mary Lou Williams had the first real salon/workshop series in her home which inspired other Jazz artists like Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie to follow suit with The Jazz Composers Workshop. This summer series seems like a natural partnership for us to reignite that creative spark and we are very excited about playing in these very special venues, surrounded by the artwork of these legendary artists.”
